Ελληνικος Συλλογος Προστασιας Ιπποειδων,
Ο Ελληνικος Σύλλογος Προστασίας Ιπποειδών ( Ε.Σ.Π.Ι. ),
ιδρύθηκε το 2006, με σκοπό να προστατεύει τα ιπποειδή
από την κακομεταχείρηση και τον βασανισμό, να ελαφρύνει
τον πόνο τους , με φροντίδα και αγάπη και να ενημερώνει
τους Ελληνες πολίτες για τη σωστή συμπεριφορά και
αντιμετώπισή τους.
Αφορμή για την ίδρυσή του υπήρξε μία καταγγελία το
καλοκαίρι του 2005, για 64 ιπποειδή που σταυλίζονταν στην
περιοχή του Ασπόπυργου από έμπορο αλόγων και
προορίζονταν άλλα μεν για τα σφαγεία της Ιταλίας, άλλα δε για
πώληση και αναπαραγωγή. Οι συνθήκες σταυλισμού ήταν
απαράδεκτες, τα ζώα εκινούντο ανάμεσα από κόκκαλα
πεθαμένων αλόγων και παληά σιδερικά, χωρίς σκιά , με
ελάχιστο φαγητό και νερό.
Ο χώρος δεν ανήκε στον συγκεκριμένο έμπορο και δεν είχε
άδεια λειτουργίας. Επί σειρά ετών δε πολλοί είχαν καταγγείλει
το γεγονός χωρίς καμμία ανταπόκριση από τους αρμόδιους
φορείς.
Η καταγγελία αυτή, ευαισθητοποίησε μερικούς αθλητές της
Ιππασίας που έδρασαν ταχύτατα και αποτελεσματικά. Με την
βοήθεια της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας Ιππασίας, τα ζώα
κατασχέθηκαν με εντολή εισαγγελέως . Χρειάστηκε όμως να τα
περιθάλψουμε για περισσότερο από έναν χρόνο, μέχρι να
τελειώσουν οι δικαστικές ενέργειες,
Ακολούθησε άλλη μία καταγγελία για 24 άλογα που
μεταφέροντο με φορτηγό, στο λιμάνι της Πάτρας με
προορισμό τα σφαγεία της Ιταλίας. Τα ζώα ήταν κλεισμένα και
κυριολεκτικά πεταμένα στο φορτηγό για περισσότερο από 48
ώρες, χωρίς νερό και τροφή. Πολλά από αυτά ήταν άρρωστα.
Σώσαμε τα περισσότερα και τα δώσαμε για υιοθεσία. Μερικά
από αυτά είναι ακόμα μαζύ μας.
Υπήρξαν ευτυχώς φίλοι από τον χώρο της Ιππασίας που μας
διέθεσαν τις εγκαταστάσεις τους για την φιλοξενεία των ζώων
στις δύσκολες αυτές στιγμές και μας στήριξαν οικονομικά.
Αν και δεν μπορούμε να σταματήσουμε το εμπόριο κρέατος,
όσο ο συγκεκριμμένος νόμος είναι έν ισχύ, μπορούμε όμως να
επιβάλλουμε να τηρούνται οι σωστές σύμφωνα με τον νόμο
συνθήκες μεταφοράς ως επίσης να συνοδεύονται από νόμιμα
επίσημα έγγραφα.
Από την ίδρυσει μετακομισαμε δυο φορες, τελικα βρηκαμε
μονιμη κατοικια σε μια εγκασταση, όπου φιλοξενούμε τα ζώα
αυτά, στο Κορωπι στον δρομο του ΝΑΤΟ (στριβεται πριν την
Τραπεζα Πειραιος). Νοικιάσαμε έναν ελαιωνα τεσσαρων
σρεμματων που διαμορφώσαμε σε 10 στάβλους, 2
εξωτερικούς χώρους για τα άλογα, αποθήκες και δωμάτιο για
τον σταυλίτη που τα περιποιείται. Επίσης και έναν αγρό 3
στρεμάτων όπου αφήνουμε ελεύθερα τα ζώα όλη την ημέρα.
Δεχόμαστε πολλές καταγγελίες και δεν λέμε ποτέ ΟΧΙ για ένα
άλογο, μουλάρι ή γαιδούρι που έχει ανάγκη βοήθειας. Αν δεν
μπορούμε να βοηθήσουμε να βελτιωθούν οι συνθήκες
διαβίωσής τους, ή χρειάζονται ιατρική φροντίδα, τα
μεταφέρουμε στις εγκαταστάσεις του Συλλόγου όπου τα
περιθάλπτουμε. Όταν είναι τελείως υγιή, σωματικά,και
ψυχικά, τα δίνουμε για υιοθεσία σε ανθρώπους που έχουν την
δυνατότητα να τους προσφέρουν μια ωραία ζωή, πάντα υπό
την παρακολούθησή μας.
Να σημειώσουμε εδώ, ότι αρκετές φορές δεχθήκαμε
καταγγελίες από κατοίκους της Βούλας για εγκαταλειμμένα
ζώα και ανταποκριθήκαμε άμεσα.
Επίσης καθιερώσαμε τον θεσμό της <ΑΝΑΔΟΧΗΣ> ενός
ζώου. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο μπορεί όποιος θέλει να διαλέξει
ένα από τα ζώα που βρίσκονται στον Σύλλογο και να αναλάβει
για ένα μικρό ποσό ετησίως, μέρος των εξόδων συντήρησής
του. Είναι μια ενδιαφέρουσα προσέγγιση για τους
ανθρώπους που αγαπάνε τα ζώα αλλά δεν έχουν χώρο να τα
πάρουνε σπίτι τους.
Εχει ιδιαίτερη απήχηση στα παιδιά και τα βοηθάει να
καταλάβουν την έννοια της προσφοράς.
Τα τρέχοντα θεματα που μας απασχολούν είναι ,
1) Η αλλαγή της Ελληνικής Νομοθεσίας σε θέματα που
αφορούν τα ιπποειδή.
2) Η εξασφάλιση οικονομικής βοήθειας από την Πολιτεία και
συγκεκριμμένα από το Υπουργείο Γεωργικής Ανάπτυξης, το
οποίο είναι εξ΄άλλου υπεύθυνο για την λύση αυτού του
προβλήματος που εμείς έχουμε αναλάβει εθελοντικά.
3) Η εύρεση χορηγών μικρών και μεγάλων που θα μας
στηρίξουν οικονομικά.
4) Η συνεργασία με παρόμοιους φορείς στην Ευρωπαική
΄Ενωση για να πάρουμε στοιχεία και βοήθεια από την
εμπειρία τους.΄Εχουμε ήδη επαφή με μερικούς από αυτούς
που μας έχουν ενισχύσει όσο μπορούσαν
5) Οργάνωση ομάδας εθελοντών που θα βοηθήσει σημαντικά
την δουλειά μας.
6) Διοργάνωση εκδηλώσεων για την γνωστοποίηση του έργου
μας και την ενίσχυση των οικονομικών μας.
Επειδή η αγάπη μας και η διάθεση προσφοράς για τα
ιπποειδή είναι πολύ μεγάλη, αλλά και επειδή πιστεύουμε ότι ο
πολιτισμός μιάς χώρας κρίνεται και από τον τρόπο
αντιμετώπισης των ζώων κα την συμπεριφορά των πολιτών
προς αυτά, χρειαζόμαστε την βοήθεια όλων όσων πιστεύουν
στην προσπάθεια αυτή.

1. Foundation of Society and Background history
For the first time in Greece, a large number of
horses were successfully rescued from the
appalling conditions in which they were kept by a
dealer in the Aspropirgos area of Attica.
In July 2006, a team of animal-lovers from the horse
world visited a dealer's yard and found approximately
60 horses tied up without water or shade standing
amongst the bones of those who had not survived.
Others were in covered areas amongst rubble, dirt
and bones. Suffice it to say that something had to be
done and for once, in Greece, it actually was!
Despite the law recognizing animals only as
personal property with no actual rights, various
organizations headed by the Greek Equestrian
Federation and including the Veterinary Service and
the regional health authorities managed 10 obtain a
judge's order authorising the removal of the animals
from that terrible place. 42 animals were rescued
and taken into "protective custody" pending a court
case.
The dealer was finally tried and found guilty of cruelty
to animals and was sentenced to 8 months
imprisonment, yet the horses remain his property.
Efforts were made to try and find a way around the
present law including bringing a civil lawsuit for all
the costs incurred by the Society and its members
during the time the horses have been in our care.
However the horses remain the property of the
dealer and finally an agreement was made to buy
those horses at most risk - the older horses and the
smaller ponies and donkeys. Α large number of
these animals have now been rehoused in private
homes, mainly as pets or companions for other
horses. The animals returned to the dealer are
those which are mainly suitable for breeding or are
stronger and these certainly have a better chance of
a decent life.
Obviously the conditions in which the dealer, and any
other similar establishment, keeps their animals will
be closely monitored, but hopefully things will
improve and this is the main aim of the Society. The
need to educate the general public as well as horse
owners so that they are able to take better care of
their animals and only in very extreme cases or
where the owners cannot take care of them, should
the Society actually step in and try to find alternative
solutions.
In addition, we need to keep fighting to change the
law in Greece to match the rest of the EU. Until then
we may often be fighting a losing battle.
For these reasons the Hellenic Society for Equine
Welfare was formed to undertake the protection of
these and other equines in the future.
In another case 26 horses and donkeys were
rescued from appalling transport conditions - 24
hours in one truck without food or water. The lorry
was stopped in the port of Patras after the authorities
had been alerted by the Society and after a very fast
Court hearing the anima\s were handed over to the
Society for protection and pending their adoption.
The donkeys were transported to Northern Greece
where they are being looked after by John Laden
who has undertaken a number of rescue cases in
the past.
For the future, a way must be found to create a
refuge where rescued horses can be kept, either
temporarily or on a long term basis. Obviously, due
to their size, horses need spacious areas, large
amounts of food and special care. With love and
determination, members of the Hellenic Society for
Equine Welfare believe this can be achieved but
above all the he\p of volunteers and financial support
is essential.
Aims:
* To rescue and care for stray equines in need.
Equines include horses, mules and donkeys.
* To inform the public about welfare of equines, how
to keep and care for them properly.
* To have the animals in our care adopted by the
public.
* To have the Greek law made more specific in
relation to the protection of equines.
Activities:
* Taking care of the animals at our premises in
Koropi.
* Acting on information from the public about
equines in need.
* Retrieving these equines and bringing them into
our care.
* Fund raising for the society (ESPI): sponsored
rides, coffee mornings, lunches, evening events,
quiz nights.
Biggest Problems:
* Financial. The equines in our care need constant
funding.
* The uninformed public.
* The Greek law which is not specific enough to
enable us to easily and quickly retrieve the equines
in need. Sometimes time is of the essence when it
comes to very sick/injured animals.
Positive Changes:
* There is a definite improvement in the general
awareness of the public as our profile as a society is
raised. We are receiving more and more telephone
calls from people eager to report a situation they
have witnessed concerning the welfare of equines.
* The police are becoming more aware of us and we
have been contacted on a couple of occasions by
police stations reporting on equines in need.
* The Hellenic Equestrian Federation is also helping
in raising awareness of our society.

Είσοδος ελεύθερη. Θα υπάρχουν αναψυχτικά/ κέικ, χειροποίητα προϊόντα, βόλτα με πόνυ, και πολλά άλλα!
